Writers that freelance have no guarantees as to what they make monthly. It all depends on how much they can produce, in the number and size of articles, and how much is accepted by the publication(s) they submit them to.
I submit some articles that are declined. Others are trimmed massively and since I’m paid per word that impacts the payment for each one.
If you need a steady income find a full time job that is not geared on production like freelance writing.

What was the amazon hosted service (or amazon service, idk) which allows freelance home-based workers to complete simple projects (proofreading etc) for anyone willing to pay?
Or something. A friend told me about this, and that it was on the radio, maybe npr or something, a channel which featured the BBC’s world news. Perhaps.
Ideas?
Let me know. Id be happy to do any work for you.

And if so, where might I find them and how much would it cost.
Here is one freelance editor who specializes in children’s books:
http://www.underdown.org/rates.htm
The page linked above takes you to his rates page, where he gives estimates of the cost depending on the kind of editing you want. This should help you get an idea of the going rates as well. Some freelance editors charge by the hour, some per page or word.
You can use the internet to search for more possibilities, but be careful to check out references and experience before committing to paying anyone.
You may also want to try to exchange manuscripts with another writer for critique, which is free. Join a writing forum like http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/ or ask at your local library and bookstores if there are any writing groups meeting there.

I am being offered a chance to help write a book as a free lance writer but don’t know if the offer is fair or not. What is typical for a new writer working on a college success book, with sales maxing around 90000?
Depends on what exactly you will be doing. Go to the following website and it will tell you how much to charge based on the type of free lance work you will be doing. Good luck with the book!

How do I get into advertising copywriting or a profession of a similar mold?
I have a good degree in English Studies (including a dissertation-level creative writing portfolio), a Trinity College London certificate in TESOL, ‘A’ level English, two other ‘A’ level qualifications, 11 GCSEs at grade C and above, and I like creative writing a LOT.
But how do I get into work as an advertising copywriter? From what I have researched, the job sounds ideal for me. I have no problem with the prospect of low or unpaid internships if it leads to a decent job in the field, but how on earth do I get in there?
FM, is that how you went about it? I don’t have a list of advertising companies, no. Where can I start?
Getting into the advertising field is all about networking. You don’t even need to have the best skills, but if you know the right people then you’re set. Start out by asking your friends and family if they know anybody who works in advertising.
(You may not think this will work, but I tried this and it turns out I have a great aunt who I only met once that works in advertising and will be more than happy to put in a good word for me.)
If you do this and you don’t find anybody, then try going to your local advertising agencies and asking for an "informational interview." If you ask for a regular job interview then 99% of the time they will turn you down because they only hire people who were refered to them. But in an informational interview you sit down with the creative director or somebody and ask about the work environment, where they get their inspiration for their great ads, what they expect when hiring, etc. They will usually be more than willing to give you a few minutes of their time if they know that you’re not going to hassle them for a job.
What hopefully results from this informational interview is you get to add one more person to your network. And maybe the person you’re talking with will give you a name of somebody who is hiring. In the advertising world, everybody seems to know everybody…because of this networking. Then you can say, "Hi there, Fred from Adco told me to come see you about a copywriter position." And BAM, you’re in. Good luck!

And how do I become a freelance writer?
Freelance writers are hired to write any number of things: brochures, websites, press releases, newspaper articles, interviews, advertisements, scripts, marketing programs, etc. . . . basically anything requested by the client. The writer advertises himself or herself through a variety of means: word of mouth, the Internet, reputation, etc. and generally, but not always, works from his or her home. Some freelance writers do have offices. All one has to do to become a freelance writer is put the word out that one is available to write for hire. Of course, it helps to be a decent writer. If the client is not satisfied with your work, you are not likely to be paid or hired the next time. Also, recommendations from satisfied clients are very important in getting future work. Developing a portfolio of written work is very important to a freelance writer. Showing this work to a future client is one way the freelancer sells himself or herself.
